You would take your own steps and go and wait for Him at the finish line whereas He is supposed to lead you; truth is you can't even get there on your own. You are unsure of what is next so the only thing you ought do is to ask Him.
No, don't get me wrong, we have been made whole already by God and have been given everything we need for it (2 Peter 1:3) but the process of uncovering us, teaching us, leading us - we have to be patient to take it a day at a time. - but may God of all grace, who called us to eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered, a while, perfect you, establish, strengthen and settle you (2 Peter 1:10). See the finished works of the artists - it's amazing but did it just happen? No. A little shading here, a little paint there , a little coiling at the top, a bit of mystery somewhere in d middle and onlookers just can't see what the outcome is going to be till BAM it's finished.
Stay with God as He works. Let Him run the Show; cheer Him on with your faith. The old Jerusalem was torn down into bits and pieces, the rebuilding of the new one started in bits and piece by piece.
We pray "take all of me Lord " but there are certain things that's not of God so in the process He breaks and pulls down some laziness, he pulls down to pieces the selfishness, He gives you a piece of His wisdom so that you run back to Him for more.
Jesus realised that power has gone out of Him when the woman with the issue of blood touched Him(luke 4:46) so He needed top up from His source; no wonder He was always on His knees praying - we need to top up every time that's why He advocates us to pray without ceasing, not pray in a season and have it all. He takes the bits of anger away; He leaves bits so that you can be angry about the wickedness going on and interceed.
Come on its beautiful; that's how He does it. God working on us is not a one day something so that we think "we have arrived " and then we take our back pack and be like "bye, it's been nice working with you - your friend * insert name * " . Paul said "Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which Christ has also laid hold of me" - Philippians 3:12.
The fact that you accepted Jesus and you are now co-heirs with Him doesn't mean He is going to Immediately stop the urge to smoke, fornicate, steal and lie; there are saved people who still steal - you need to surrender it to Him. Sweetheart let's be honest with ourselves here, I know He saved you, you are a new creation, seed of Abraham, light of the world, salt of the earth, a city upon the hill - all that is very true; congrats for making that decision but you are still in that same flesh; just for clarity sake did you take your skin off?, if really you did what about your mind that bears the thoughts and your heart that accepts the decision and collaborate with the mind to perform the action? You threw them away too right? * laughs*. Why would Paul advise us to renew our mind daily ".....renewing of the mind" -(Romans 12:1) that's present continuous tense.
God does everything for us out of His unconditional love to His glory.( with God it's win -win.. Awesome right). Because you can't silent that lying tongue and put your emotions in check on your own so you don't go out and fornicate, you ought to be at His feet all the time so that He would teach you. When he starts, He takes it in bits and piece by piece . From introduction to chapter 1, then a test, then when you fail some you do correction and take another assignment home. You continue from the next chapter and on on it goes - if you didn't know He won the best teacher award and He is still the defending Champion. (standing ovation please ).
Now hear me out, this process has its timing and it differs from individual to individual; how attentive we are in class and how often we read our books (Bible in this case) determines if we would move to chapter 4 or the next sooner or later. Destroy this temple and I will build it in 3 days (John 2:19)- that's a temple that took 46years to build they told Him (but He was talking about the temple of the body) ... God got the timing on point; if you want to stop the smoking, adultery,etc then you should take your classes with God serious.
On the other side, some people have made it their life long project to hurt you and break you into bits and pieces(may they receive Jesus) but healing is at your door from Jesus. He would put the pieces back perfectly as if it has never been broken... We are broken into bits n pieces and we are being fixed piece by piece. (psalm 34:18)..stay strong; the process might be painful but the end result is sweet.
